I-24 And SR 55 Weekend Closures Set For November 6–9 In Manchester

Drivers using Interstate 24 through Manchester will face a weekend detour at Exit 111 from 9 p.m. Friday, November 6, through 6 a.m. Monday, November 9, while crews demolish the State Route 55 South bridge.

Interstate traffic will leave I-24 and cross the interchange using the exit and entrance ramps. SR 55 across the interstate will close, with a signed detour. TDOT advises drivers entering Manchester to use Exit 110 or Exit 114.

The Exit 110 entrance ramp to eastbound I-24 will close for the weekend. Exit 111A will remain open for the interstate detour, then close Monday as a new traffic pattern begins. Eastbound drivers will instead use the current Exit 111B.

When SR 55 reopens, both directions will share the North bridge, with one lane each way, while the South bridge is replaced.

TDOT’s October 29 announcement says a detailed detour map will follow. A second weekend closure is planned for later demolition of the North bridge; that date has not been announced. Work remains weather-dependent. TDOT closure announcement

The work is part of a $30.9 million contract announced in August that also includes replacing the SR 2 bridge over the CFW railroad in Manchester. The new SR 55 bridges will include sidewalks.

Dement Construction Group is the contractor, with HDR Engineering as lead designer. TDOT’s August announcement lists May 31, 2029, as the overall project completion date, not the end of this weekend’s closure. TDOT project announcement
