Franklin County School District announced its 2026–27 district-level award winners Monday, November 2, recognizing six teachers along with a principal and a supervisor.
The teaching awards recognize educators at the elementary, middle and high school levels, with separate Teacher of the Year and Novice Teacher of the Year honors in each group.
Erin Wallace of Broadview Elementary was named Elementary Teacher of the Year. Mattie Cowan of Cowan Elementary received the Elementary Novice Teacher of the Year honor.
At the middle school level, Cole Johnson of South Middle was named Teacher of the Year, while Brandy Weddington of North Middle was named Novice Teacher of the Year.
Franklin County High School received both high school teaching honors. Margaret Bandy was named High School Teacher of the Year, and Grant Gipson was named High School Novice Teacher of the Year.
The district also recognized Allison Dietz as Principal of the Year and Laurie Baggett as Supervisor of the Year.
Monday’s announcement followed the district’s October 28 recognition of its building-level honorees. Those earlier graphics listed 13 Teachers of the Year and 10 Novice Teachers of the Year across Franklin County schools, including separate elementary, middle and high school Teacher of the Year selections at Huntland.
In the October announcement, the district said the building-level recipients had already been recognized at their schools and that district-level winners would be announced next. Monday’s post identifies those district-level selections; the two announcements represent different levels of recognition.
