Duck River Electric Volunteers Help Prepare 60 Beds For Children

Duck River Electric employees helped prepare 60 twin-size beds for children during a volunteer project with Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s Bedford County chapter, the cooperative reported Friday.

The work took place October 15 as part of the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Day of Service. In its October 30 account, DREMC said 26 employees contributed a combined 72 volunteer hours.

The employees sanded and stained beds that other volunteers had already built. They also delivered three finished beds to a local family, according to the cooperative. The project supported the nonprofit’s work providing beds to children who do not have one of their own. DREMC’s report

The Bedford County chapter’s event listing placed the project at 844 New Hope Road in Shelbyville. It described checking assembled beds against the organization’s standards before sanding, staining, drying and stacking them.

The chapter is led by Madeline Fontenot. Residents interested in helping can find volunteer opportunities and bed-application information on its website. The chapter also accepts new twin-size sheets, pillows and other bedding, with online wish lists available for donors.

Its listed phone number is 844-432-2337, extension 5827. People interested in sponsoring a build can contact Sleep in Heavenly Peace through the organization’s website. Bedford County chapter

The October project marked the statewide cooperative service event’s 10th year. DREMC’s newly published account highlights work completed earlier this month, rather than an upcoming volunteer event.
