WINCHESTER, Tenn. – Winchester celebrated its rich musical heritage on Thursday, March 26, with the unveiling of a Tennessee Music Pathways marker honoring entertainment legend Dinah Shore.
The ceremony was held at 12:00 p.m. on the Winchester square and featured appearances from Mayor Sean Crabtree, Ashley DeRossett of the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, and Alex Hime, grandson of Dinah Shore.

Community members gathered to recognize Shore’s legacy as one of the most influential entertainers of her time. Born Frances “Fanny” Shore in Winchester, she rose to national fame as a singer and television personality, leaving a lasting mark on American entertainment.
During the event, Mayor Crabtree reflected on the significance of honoring Shore in her hometown.

“Markers like this remind us that history isn’t just found in books — it’s found right here in our hometown of Winchester,” Crabtree said. “It’s in the people, the places and the moments that define us. Today we celebrate Dinah Shore — her bright smile and her warm southern charm, both of which define this town.”
The Tennessee Music Pathways program, launched in 2018, connects visitors to significant music landmarks across all 95 counties in Tennessee. The initiative highlights the state’s deep and diverse musical heritage while encouraging tourism and community pride.
Local leaders say the addition of the Dinah Shore marker not only honors her accomplishments but also strengthens Winchester’s cultural identity and connection to Tennessee’s broader music story.
The unveiling serves as a reminder of the lasting impact Shore had on the entertainment world and the pride her legacy continues to bring to her hometown.
