A video showing a spectator running onto the field and tackling a South Middle School football player has gone viral following an incident during Tuesday night’s game between South Middle School and Cornersville Middle School.
According to a press release, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has charged a 16-year-old female in connection with the incident. Officials said the juvenile ran onto the field during the game and tackled a South Middle School player. Referees immediately halted play and cleared the field. No injuries or additional disruptions were reported.
The video of the incident has since circulated widely on social media, drawing significant attention to what happened during the middle school football contest.
Following an investigation, authorities identified the juvenile and released her into the custody of her parents. She has been formally charged with assault and disorderly conduct.
The incident has also resulted in administrative consequences. According to the release, the Franklin County School System has permanently trespass-banned the juvenile from all district properties. The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association has also banned her from attending any Cornersville home or away athletic events for one year.
South Middle School Principal Dr. Brewer praised the response of coaches, players and School Resource Officers, saying those on site handled the situation with professionalism and composure. School officials have since met with coaches and SROs to review gameday procedures and implement additional security measures aimed at preventing similar incidents.
Franklin County Schools and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said they remain committed to providing a safe environment for student-athletes, staff and spectators at district events.
