The Franklin County Prevention Coalition and the Winchester Police Department recently partnered to conduct alcohol compliance checks at retail locations throughout Winchester, with the effort producing encouraging results for the community.
According to the Franklin County Prevention Coalition, compliance checks were conducted on July 9 alongside Winchester Police Department Detective Ryan Fuller and Detective Alex Boesch. Of the 22 businesses inspected, 21 refused to sell alcohol to a minor, demonstrating a high level of compliance with state laws designed to prevent underage alcohol sales.
Coalition officials said the results reflect the commitment many local retailers have made to keeping alcohol out of the hands of underage youth. One business did sell alcohol to a minor during the operation, serving as a reminder that continued education, enforcement, and accountability remain essential in preventing underage drinking.
Alcohol compliance checks are recognized as one of the most effective strategies for reducing youth access to alcohol. Officials say every responsible decision by a cashier or store employee helps protect young people, reduce underage drinking, and contribute to a safer community.
The Franklin County Prevention Coalition expressed its appreciation to the Winchester Police Department for its ongoing partnership in the effort.
