Winchester, TN – The impact of last summer’s Vietnam Traveling Wall visit to Winchester continues to be felt throughout the community, as funds raised through sponsorships for the event have helped create permanent tributes honoring local veterans at Winchester City Park.
According to the City of Winchester Mayor’s Office, veterans and committee members dedicated countless hours to bringing the Vietnam Traveling Wall to the community, creating an opportunity for residents to remember and honor those who served during the Vietnam War.
Following the event, sponsorship funds have continued to benefit the community. Several months ago, benches funded through the effort were installed along the walking trail at Winchester City Park, providing visitors with places to rest and reflect.
The latest addition to the trail includes military branch medallions representing each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. The medallions were recently placed along the walking trail, creating another permanent tribute to the men and women who have served the country.
The Mayor’s Office recognized Paul Delridge, Beri Fraley, Mark Griffin, Roger Vetitoe, Barbara Lucas, Doug Freund, Nancy Hibler and David Jordan for assisting with the installation of the medallions. Tom Isbell and Amy Dennis were also recognized for their assistance with the project.
City officials said what began as an effort to honor Vietnam veterans has developed into a lasting gift for Winchester—one that recognizes veterans from all branches of military service while creating a meaningful space for future generations.
The City of Winchester also extended its appreciation to the veterans, committee members, sponsors, volunteers and community supporters whose contributions helped make both the original Vietnam Traveling Wall event and the permanent additions at Winchester City Park possible.
