Franklin County Launches Free Summer Tech Camps for Middle School Students

Franklin County Government is giving local students the chance to build valuable technology skills this summer while having fun—and they’ll even take home a brand-new tablet at no cost.

The county has announced two free Tech Ready Summer Tech Camps for students entering the 5th, 6th and 7th grades, with sessions scheduled for July 20-24 and July 27-31 at the Townsend Community Center in Winchester.

Led by instructor Robby Clark, the camps will run daily from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and are designed to help students develop digital literacy, internet safety skills and confidence using technology through hands-on learning, educational games and interactive activities.

Students will learn practical technology skills, including how to safely navigate the internet, effectively use their new tablets and conduct proper online research. Complimentary lunch will also be provided each day.

The camps are part of Franklin County Government’s Tech Ready initiative, a fully grant-funded program directed by Stanley Bean. In addition to youth education, the Tech Ready program offers workforce development opportunities and public technology classes for residents throughout the county.

“We want to equip our youth with the tools they need to succeed in a digital world, while making sure they know how to navigate the internet safely,” Clark said. “Providing them with their own tablets ensures that the learning doesn’t stop when the camp ends.”

To provide a more personalized learning experience, enrollment is limited to 10 students per session, and organizers expect the available spots to fill quickly.

Parents interested in registering their child or obtaining additional information can contact Robby Clark at 931-691-5909 or by email at robbyclark@franklincotn.gov.

The Tech Ready program is funded through grants and is offered free of charge to Franklin County residents.
