Local Police Agencies Warn of Fake Court Notice Text Scam

The Estill Springs Police Department is alerting residents to a circulating text message scam involving a fake court notice designed to look like an official legal document.

According to authorities, the message includes what appears to be a notice from the Davidson County General Sessions Court Traffic Division. The document claims the recipient has an outstanding traffic violation and threatens serious consequences such as fines, license suspension, and additional penalties if immediate action is not taken.

The message also directs recipients to scan a QR code to resolve the issue and submit payment.

Police say the notice is fraudulent.

Several residents have already contacted or visited the Estill Springs Police Department after receiving the message, prompting officials to issue a public warning.

Authorities emphasize that legitimate court systems do not demand payment through unsolicited text messages, nor do they require individuals to scan QR codes to settle fines.

Residents are strongly advised not to click any links, scan QR codes, or provide personal or financial information if they receive one of these messages. Engaging with the scam could lead to identity theft or financial loss.

If you receive a message matching this description, officials recommend deleting it immediately and not responding.

Anyone with concerns or questions about suspicious messages is encouraged to contact local law enforcement for guidance.
