Sewanee’s Savannah Gann Reaches 1,000 Career Kills

Savannah Gann reached a career milestone on her home court Sunday, Oct. 25, recording her 1,000th kill for the Sewanee Tigers during a Southern Athletic Association volleyball match against Berry College.

The senior outside hitter reached the mark in the first set at Juhan Gymnasium. She finished the match with 12 kills, 14 digs and five service aces, then added 10 kills as Sewanee swept Oglethorpe later that day.

Gann, a Birmingham, Alabama, native who played at Vestavia Hills High School, has earned all-conference recognition in each of the past two seasons. She was a first-team All-SAA selection in 2025 after receiving second-team honors in 2024.

Her college totals included 228 kills as a freshman, 232 as a sophomore and 317 last season. In 2025, her average of 3.17 kills per set ranked fourth in the conference.

Sunday’s milestone came during a split for the Tigers. Sewanee opened against No. 9 Berry with a 25–16 first-set victory, but the Vikings took the next three sets, 25–21, 29–27 and 25–22.

Suna Merkler led Sewanee with 18 kills against Berry, while Mollie White added 10. Sophia Caruso led the Tigers’ defense with 16 digs.

Sewanee followed with a three-set win over Oglethorpe, taking the sets 25–10, 25–16 and 25–15. Gann led the team in kills, Keira Baldwin recorded 10 digs and Merkler served four aces. The win left the Tigers 9–12 overall and 5–8 in conference play at the end of Sunday’s matches.

Sewanee next travels to Maryville College for conference matches, beginning against Southwestern University on Friday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m. Central.
