Franklin County 4-H Recruiting Students for Two Competitive Fall Programs

Franklin County 4-H is gearing up for another busy season and is inviting local students to take part in two competitive opportunities this fall: the 4-H Grill Master Challenge and the 4-H Consumer Decision Making Contest.

The 4-H Grill Master Challenge is open to Senior High 4-H members in grades 9-12. Organizers are forming a four-member team, with each participant specializing in one of four meat categories: beef, lamb, poultry, or pork. Contestants will develop grilling techniques while being judged on cooking skills, taste, presentation, and food safety.

Practices are expected to begin in July or August, depending on participants’ schedules, with the regional competition scheduled for September 10.

Franklin County 4-H is also seeking students interested in participating in the Consumer Decision Making Contest, with the regional competition set for Monday, August 17.

The contest teaches students to evaluate products, compare options, organize information, and make informed consumer decisions based on facts. Participants also learn to defend their choices through oral reasons while working with teammates to solve real-world scenarios.

The Consumer Decision Making Contest is open to youth in grades 4-12 (based on grade level as of January 1 of the current year), and participation is free.

Students interested in either opportunity are encouraged to sign up soon, as space is limited.
