Decherd Elementary Bomb Threat Determined Non-Credible After Investigation

A bomb threat reported Thursday morning at Decherd Elementary School was determined to be non-credible following an investigation by school officials and law enforcement.

According to a statement from Franklin County Schools, the threat was reported to the School Resource Officer at Decherd Elementary earlier in the day. The incident was immediately investigated and handled by the SRO and school administration.

The district said established safety protocols were followed after the report was received. Following what officials described as a comprehensive investigation, the threat was determined to be non-credible. Franklin County Schools said students, faculty, and staff were not in physical danger at any point, and the school environment remained safe for continued operations.

“The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our absolute highest priority,” said Rachel Shields, District Public Relations. “We are grateful for the swift, professional response of the School Resource Officer and the seamless cooperation of the school’s administration team. Their vigilance ensures that our classrooms remain a secure place for learning.”

The district acknowledged that incidents involving school safety can cause concern for parents and the community, but emphasized that every threat is taken seriously and handled with caution.

Franklin County Schools also encouraged families to talk with their children about the importance of using safe and appropriate language at school. The district noted that statements or threats involving school safety can lead to significant school and legal consequences.

The district thanked the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, SRO Isbell, school staff, and parents for their continued support in maintaining a safe school environment.
