A former Franklin County High School teacher has been indicted by a Tennessee Grand Jury on sex crime charges involving a minor.
Former Franklin County High School teacher Herbert “Toby” Maze has been charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and solicitation of a minor.
Detectives reportedly said the investigation began several weeks ago, and the Grand Jury returned the indictment Tuesday based on the evidence presented. Maze is currently being held without bond pending a court hearing.
Authorities are asking any other potential victims to contact the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
The Franklin County School District issued a statement Wednesday regarding Maze’s arrest. According to the district, Maze was a former teacher who resigned from the district at the conclusion of the 2024-2025 school year.
“Because this is an active investigation being handled strictly by the local authorities, the District does not have specific details to share with the public at this time,” the district said in its release. “District officials are cooperating fully with law enforcement as they lead this process.”
The district also emphasized that student safety remains its top priority.
“The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority,” the release stated. “The Franklin County School District remains absolutely committed to taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of our students, staff, and campus environment.”
Because the case remains an ongoing legal matter, the district said it will not be providing further comment. All questions regarding the investigation and any related charges are being directed to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
This remains an active investigation, and additional details may be released by law enforcement as the case moves forward.
