LAWRENCEBURG, TN — On a cool, windy evening at Lawrence County, the Franklin County Rebels found themselves on the wrong end of another tight contest, falling 2-0 to Tullahoma in the opening round of the District 12AAA Tournament.
The loss marks the Rebels’ ninth consecutive defeat to Tullahoma dating back to March of 2023 and continues a difficult late-season stretch, with Franklin County now dropping nine of its last 11 games.
Despite the result, it was a classic pitchers’ duel.
Gus Gardner delivered a strong performance on the mound, going the distance while allowing just two runs—only one earned—on six hits. The right-hander struck out seven and battled throughout, keeping the Rebels within striking distance all night.
Tullahoma’s Lukas Taylor was equally impressive, however, tossing a complete-game shutout while striking out 11 and limiting Franklin County to just three hits.
The Wildcats broke through in the third inning, taking advantage of a leadoff single and a pair of defensive miscues before scoring on an RBI groundout to make it 1-0. They added an insurance run in the sixth after loading the bases and drawing a walk.

Offensively, the Rebels struggled to generate momentum. Layton Jones, Josiah Cullins, and Ayden Hodosi each recorded a hit, but Franklin County was unable to string together a rally. A leadoff single in the seventh gave the Rebels a final chance, but a fielder’s choice and two flyouts ended the game.
The swirling wind blowing in from center field kept balls in the park and only added to the challenge for hitters on both sides, as both pitchers leaned heavily on effective breaking balls throughout the night.
With the loss, Franklin County falls to 15-17 on the season and now faces elimination.
The Rebels will look to keep their season alive Friday against Giles County at Lawrence County, with first pitch set for 4:30 p.m.
