WINCHESTER, Tenn. — On a blustery Monday night at Franklin County High School, the conditions were anything but calm — but the Franklin County Rebelettes found their rhythm late, erupting for a 12-0 win over Shelbyville behind a dominant performance in the circle and a walk-off home run from Addilyn Carter.
The wind played a factor all night, swirling across the field and blowing in toward right, kicking up dirt around the infield and creating challenges for both teams. Early on, it worked against Franklin County, as several hard-hit balls died in the air and were tracked down by Shelbyville’s outfield.
But that didn’t last.
As the game wore on, the Rebelettes began to adjust, driving balls deeper and deeper into the outfield. What started as loud outs turned into balls off the wall — and eventually over it.
The biggest swing came from Carter, who delivered a walk-off three-run home run in the sixth inning to end the game. The blast, her sixth of the season, cut through the swirling wind and capped off a four-RBI night for the freshman, who continues to emerge as one of the most dangerous bats in the lineup.
Carter wasn’t alone.
Eight of Franklin County’s nine starters recorded a hit, showcasing the balance that has started to define this offense. Alex Hand and Addilyn Carter each finished with two doubles, while several other well-struck balls never showed up in the stat sheet after being ruled errors.
One of the night’s most impressive performances came from Madi Morris, who made her first varsity start after returning from a serious knee injury suffered during soccer season. Just months removed and still wearing a brace, Morris made an immediate impact both defensively and offensively.
In the fifth inning, she delivered a highlight-reel play, tracking down a fly ball in center field before firing a strike to catcher Alex Hand to throw out a runner at the plate. At the plate, she reached base twice on perfectly placed push bunts, flashing speed that showed just how far she’s come in her recovery.
In the circle, despite giving up a triple on the games first pitch, Victoria Nelson was in control throughout. Making her seventh start of the season, Nelson tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just seven hits while striking out six. She worked out of multiple jams and kept Shelbyville off the board, earning her fourth win of the season and recording her 60th strikeout — a team-leading mark.
Franklin County broke the game open with five runs in the fifth inning before adding six more in the sixth, turning a close game into a run-rule victory.
With the win, the Rebelettes continue to show growth at the plate and depth across the lineup — a dangerous combination as they push deeper into the season.
