Winchester is set to celebrate one of its most iconic natives as the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development joins local leaders to unveil a Tennessee Music Pathways marker honoring entertainment legend Dinah Shore.
Born Frances “Fanny” Shore in Winchester, Dinah Shore rose to national fame as a pop singer, television personality, and cultural icon. Known for her hit recordings and groundbreaking television career, Shore became one of the most recognizable voices of her era. She was named Billboard Magazine’s “Top Female Vocalist on Disc Jockey Shows” and “Top-Selling Artist” in 1946.
Shore began her career with radio appearances on Nashville stations WLAC and WSM before moving to New York, where she signed with RCA Victor Records and secured a regular show on NBC. Her career produced a string of hit songs, including “I’ll Walk Alone,” “The Gypsy,” and “Buttons and Bows.”
In addition to her music success, Shore became a television pioneer. She hosted The Dinah Shore Show from 1951 to 1957 and later starred in The Dinah Shore Chevy Show through 1963. She also hosted popular daytime programs including Dinah’s Place and Dinah!, and later A Conversation with Dinah on The Nashville Network.

Throughout her career, Shore earned numerous accolades, including six Emmy Awards and nominated for an additional two awards, a Golden Globe Award and nomination, and The Peabody Award in 1957. She was inducted into the Emmy Awards Hall of Fame in 1992.
The Tennessee Music Pathways marker unveiling is scheduled for Thursday, March 26 at 12:00 p.m. at 107 1st Avenue NW in Winchester. The event will feature photo and interview opportunities with Winchester Mayor Sean Crabtree, Ashley DeRossett from the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, and Alex Hime, Family of Dinah Shore.
