WINCHESTER, TN – The candidate field for the May 5 Franklin County primary election is now finalized following the passing of the qualifying and withdrawal deadlines.
Key dates ahead of Election Day include the voter registration deadline of April 6 and the early voting period from April 15 through April 30. Early voting will take place at the Franklin County Election Commission Office located in the Franklin County Annex Building at 839 Dinah Shore Boulevard in Winchester. Polling hours will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon on the two Saturdays during the early voting period.
The Republican primary ballot includes several contested races. Incumbent Franklin County Mayor Chris Guess will face challenger Douglas Freund. Former County Commissioner James Cantrell is challenging incumbent Scottie Riddle for the District 3, Seat A commission position.
In District 4, Seat A, incumbent Tyler Bauer will face former commissioner Greg King and John W. Skidmore. Meanwhile, former commissioner Charles “Chuck” Stines and John M. Ingle are competing for the District 4, Seat B commission seat.
The District 1 constable race will feature Tim Wright and Christopher Lee Hobbs.
Several other Republican candidates are running unopposed, including Charles Keller for sheriff, Robert Baggett for circuit court clerk, Tina Clark Sanders for county clerk and Nancy K. Ringer for register of deeds.
School Board races also include uncontested candidates Sandy Schultz for District 1, Dave Van Buskirk for District 3 and Caycee Hanger Roberts for District 7.
The Democratic primary ballot consists entirely of uncontested races, including candidates Wade Anderton, Bruce D. McMillian, Johnny R. Hughes, Bobby R. Clark, Ashley Bowers, Mark A. Vanzant and Stuart Schuch.
Several independent candidates have also qualified to run in the August 6 general election for positions including county commission, sheriff, trustee, road commissioner, school board and constable.
