Rebels’ Season Ends in District Play-In Loss to Lawrence County

The Franklin County Rebels saw their season come to an end Monday night on the bypass, falling 53-37 to Lawrence County in the District 12AAA Play-In Game.

From the opening tip, the Rebels struggled to find an offensive rhythm. Austin Heath kept Franklin County within striking distance early, knocking down a pair of first-quarter three-pointers to keep the score at 12-8 after one. But the Wildcats’ depth and timely shooting began to wear on the Rebels as the night progressed.

Lawrence County’s Jake Moore caught fire early, hitting three three-pointers across the first two quarters. The Wildcats were able to rotate bodies throughout the game, ultimately getting points from eight different players.

Meanwhile, Franklin County was battling more than just the scoreboard. Several Rebels were not at full strength, and Monte Johnson — normally one of the team’s most explosive weapons in transition — struggled to catch his breath and was visibly limited at times.

The Wildcats led 25-18 at halftime.

Franklin County responded in the third quarter with renewed defensive intensity. Brandon Walker, Monte Johnson and Levi Lindsay combined for 11 points as the Rebels trimmed the deficit to five. The defense allowed just nine points in the quarter, cutting the lead to 34-29 heading into the final frame.

But exhaustion and depth ultimately told the story.

Lawrence County opened the fourth quarter with energy, outscoring the Rebels 20-8. Andrew Massa poured in 10 fourth-quarter points, and Dierks Boyd matched Moore’s first-half shooting display by connecting on three second-half triples. The Wildcats finished with three players in double figures.

Franklin County struggled to penetrate the Lawrence County zone all night and was outrebounded in key moments. The Wildcats also had a free-throw advantage, going 9-of-16 from the line compared to just two trips for the Rebels.

Brandon Walker led Franklin County with 10 points in the final game of his Rebel career. Monte Johnson added 7, Brody Goff and Austin Heath each had 6, Daniel Woods scored 5, and Levi Lindsay added 3.

Walker closes his time in a Rebels uniform just shy of the 1,000-point mark — a testament to his consistency and impact over the course of his career.

For a team that battled consistency and depth challenges throughout the season, Monday night marked a difficult ending. Lawrence County advances to face Tullahoma on Friday night.
