April 30, 1935 – February 10, 2026
Glenn Howard “Flip” Flippo was born April 30, 1935, in Moore County, Tennessee to Tommie Gladys Poe Flippo and Claude Edward Flippo.
After completing his education, he worked on the family farm until he joined the United States Army. He married his sweetheart Mary Ruth Dean in Corinth, Mississippi on August 18, 1958, beginning a partnership that would span 67 years of love and devotion.
The Army took them to Newport News, Virginia where their first child, Jerry Wayne, was born. Following his military service, Glenn and Mary Ruth returned home to Tennessee to build their life and farm together. Here, their two daughters were born, Sandra Kay and Glenda Joy. Glenn began his career as a machinist at AEDC until his retirement in 1996. He took pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and steady hands. He stayed busy after his formal retirement, maintaining his cattle farm through his late eighties before making what he jokingly called his “second attempt” at retirement.
Glenn was devoted to farming and family. Whether tending cattle, working the land, or fixing what needed fixing, he found purpose in providing for those he loved. He enjoyed coon hunting, horses, and playing with his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Glenn had a warm smile, quick wit, and a way of making everyone feel welcome — he never met a stranger. He enjoyed meeting with his “breakfast club” as often as possible and treasured the friendships he made through this part of his routine. He loved to tell stories, and we could count on him to either give us a laugh, teach us something, or fill us with
wonder as we listened.
Glenn left us to join Mary Ruth in heaven on February 10, 2026, just a few weeks after her passing in December of 2025. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Tommie Gladys Poe Flippo and Claude Edward Flippo. Glenn is survived by his three children, Jerry Flippo (Misty Scott), Kay Flippo, and Joy Flippo Taylor (Chris); his brother Fred (Debbie) Flippo, his grandchildren, Scotty Sudberry (Amber), Jocie Davenport, and Kayelyn Mills (Austin); and his cherished great- grandchildren, Karaline Sudberry, Kendall Mason, Grayson Taylor, Harper Taylor, and Clara Mills. Glenn’s life was a testament to hard work, devotion to family, and quiet strength. The lessons he taught, the stories he told, and the love he gave will continue to guide his family
for generations to come. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the land he
worked, the family he raised, and the many lives he touched.
