Rebels Rally Late but Fall to Marshall County 66–58

The Franklin County Rebels showed fight Thursday night in Marshall County, but a hot shooting performance from the Tigers proved too much to overcome in a 66–58 district loss.

Franklin County opened the game with energy, jumping out to a 6–0 lead before Marshall County answered with 11 straight points to flip the momentum. The Rebels trailed 13–8 after one quarter and spent much of the night trying to climb back within reach.

The difference came from beyond the arc.

Marshall County’s Jameelan Johnson caught fire early, knocking down four three-pointers in the first half and finishing the game with five from long range. His perimeter shooting stretched the defense and helped the Tigers build a 31–20 halftime advantage. Brandon Walker once again carried the offensive load for Franklin County. He scored eight of the Rebels’ 12 second-quarter points.

The Rebels showed resilience coming out of halftime, opening the third quarter on a 12–5 run to trim the deficit. However, Marshall County responded to push the lead back to double digits before the end of the period, taking a 46–36 advantage into the fourth.

Franklin County made one final push late in the game. The Rebels cut the lead to just four points at 62–58 with 1:25 remaining, but were unable to convert down the stretch as Marshall County closed it out at the free-throw line.

Depth continues to be a challenge for Franklin County following roster changes last week, forcing the Rebels to rely heavily on a shortened rotation. While the effort remained strong, the margin for error has grown increasingly thin.

Walker finished the night with a game-high 27 points. Monte Johnson added 20 points in a strong offensive effort, while Brody Goff contributed seven. Austin Heath and Grant Parkerson scored two points each.

With the loss, Franklin County falls to 9–18 overall and 2–6 in district play. The Rebels will now turn their attention to the District 12AAA tournament, which begins next week. Official seeding and scheduling will be finalized Friday morning.
