Dr. Roger Alsup Discusses Vision After Unanimous Vote as Director of Schools

Following a unanimous 7–0 vote by the Franklin County Board of Education, Dr. Roger D. Alsup sat down to discuss his appointment as the next Director of Schools for Franklin County.

Dr. Alsup, who currently serves as Deputy Director of Schools and Human Resources Supervisor, will officially assume the role on July 1, 2026. He will succeed Dr. Carey E. Holman, who is concluding his tenure at the end of the 2025–2026 academic year.

In the interview, Dr. Alsup reflected on the Board’s decision, his history within the district, and his priorities moving forward. A longtime leader in Franklin County Schools, Alsup previously served as principal of Franklin County High School from 2016 to 2024, where he was named Franklin County Principal of the Year in 2021 and helped guide the school through notable academic growth and safety improvements.

Dr. Alsup emphasized a continued focus on student safety, academic achievement, and supporting teachers and staff across the district. He also discussed the importance of continuity, having worked closely with district leadership during his time as Deputy Director.

The appointment marks a planned transition for the district, with Dr. Alsup spending the remainder of the school year working alongside district leadership to ensure a smooth handoff for students, families, and employees.
