Moore County Schools Seeks Public Comments on Academic Plan by Wednesday

Moore County parents, educators and residents have until Wednesday, Oct. 28, to comment on the school district’s draft academic plan and accountability report for the 2026–27 school year.

Written feedback can be emailed to Director of Schools Chad Moorehead at mcdos@moorecountyschools.net. The district has posted the complete draft online with its public-comment notice.

The document is part of the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement process, commonly called TISA. The district’s notice says the final plan is due to the Tennessee Department of Education by Nov. 1.

Four areas guide the proposed work: third-grade reading, college and career readiness through the ACT, English language arts across grade levels, and mathematics.

Strategies outlined in the notice include instructional coaching, targeted help for students who need additional support, ACT preparation and small-group math tutoring. The district also describes using assessment results to adjust instruction rather than waiting until the end of the school year to evaluate progress.

The linked draft includes annual goals, ways to monitor classroom implementation and estimated funding for particular strategies. Its third-grade reading section calls for regular instructional walk-throughs, feedback to teachers and protected intervention periods for students who need them.

Residents reviewing the proposal should use the district’s online notice and linked draft together. The comment invitation concerns the plan before final submission; it is not an announcement that students have already met the proposed goals.

The district office is at 308 Mechanic Street N. in Lynchburg. Its phone number is 931-759-7303.
