Rebelettes Claim District Title, Will Host Franklin in Region Semifinal

Franklin County’s Rebelettes are District 9-AAA soccer champions and will open the next round of postseason play at home against Franklin High on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association’s official bracket lists Franklin County as the District 9 winner and host for the Region 5-AAA semifinal. Franklin enters as the District 10 runner-up.

The Rebelettes defeated Shelbyville Central 1-0 on Thursday, Oct. 15. MaxPreps’ report of the match lists Franklin County’s record at 13-4 following the victory.

That result extended a three-game stretch without allowing a goal. MaxPreps lists a 5-0 win on Oct. 8 and a 3-0 victory on Oct. 13 before the one-goal win against Shelbyville.

Across those three matches, Franklin County outscored its opponents 9-0. The latest result was the closest of the three, with the Rebelettes holding Shelbyville scoreless to finish the district tournament.

Tuesday’s other Region 5 semifinal pairs District 10 champion Ravenwood with District 9 runner-up Shelbyville. The two semifinal winners will meet for the region championship Thursday, Oct. 22.

Both region finalists advance to sectional matches Saturday, Oct. 24. The Region 5 champion will host the Region 6 runner-up, while the Region 5 runner-up will travel to the Region 6 champion, according to the TSSAA bracket.

For Franklin County, Tuesday’s home match is the next step toward one of those sectional berths. A semifinal victory would keep the Rebelettes playing through the weekend, regardless of the region championship result.

A kickoff time was not listed in the official tournament schedule as of Sunday, Oct. 18.
