Sewanee is still seeking candidates for its Community Council District 3 seat, with candidacy paperwork due Wednesday, October 28.
The University of the South’s current election notice asks prospective candidates to submit their intent to run and a completed petition. The paperwork must be received before October 29 – not simply mailed by that date.
A candidate must be a registered voter in Franklin or Marion County, have a home address in the 37375 ZIP code and have lived within that ZIP code for at least two years before the election. District 3 candidates must also live within the district.
The petition requires at least 10 signatures from registered voters who live in District 3. A district map and the candidacy form are available on the university’s Community Council webpage.
Completed petitions should be returned to Tabatha Whitsett at the University Provost’s Office. After submitting the paperwork, candidates are asked to email a short biography and headshot to provostoffice@sewanee.edu, to Whitsett’s attention.
The council addresses community welfare, cooperation and civic improvements. The current notice specifically seeks candidates for District 3; residents should check the district map before collecting signatures.
