Rosemary Vaughan, age 66 of Decherd, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 5, 1959, in Seattle, Washington to the late Teddy Preston and Bettie Christine (Myers) Vaughan. Rosemary graduated from Moore County High School before pursuing her BS in Education at MTSU. She eventually earned her MS in Education from TSU, as well as her EDS from Tennessee Tech. Rosemary had a strong work ethic that began at twelve years old milking cows. She enjoyed woodworking, one of her many talents, and built cabinets professionally for twenty years. A teacher at heart, Rosemary’s true passion was education, and she devoted thirty years of service to the community as a teacher for the Franklin County School System. She enjoyed watching sports, her Price is Right “ding-ding” daily, fishing, and gardening, as well as cheering on the University of Tennessee Volunteers. She had a passion for music and designed and built several guitars. Travel was a favorite pastime as she enjoyed going anywhere, especially the beach, with family and friends. Her easy-going nature, wonderful personality, and contagious laugh will be missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald “Hector” Vaughan and Wes Vaughan. Rosemary is survived by her children, Josh (Laura) Hornaday and Julie (Chris) Watkins; grandchildren, Alexus, Haven, Gracie, and Lincoln; siblings, Elaine Weaver, Susan (David) D’Angelo, Teddy Lynn (John) Corbin, Bettie Ann (Jeff) Gattis, and Jeannie (Bobby) Rhymer; a host of nieces and nephews; and beloved friend, Becky Goolsby. A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held from 5pm-7pm on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at Lynchburg Cemetery.
