Reverend Thomas L. Tackett passed this life peacefully on August 7th, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was a devoted husband, father, minister, teacher, brother, and friend whose life was marked by a deep love for God, a commitment to the ministry, and a genuine love for people.
Tommy’s journey of faith and service was reflected in both his education and his many years of ministry. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi College with a minor in Psychology. He later earned a master’s degree in theology from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
Tommy continued his doctoral studies and was only a few hours short of completing his doctorate. In his own humorous way, however, he decided that he did not want to write a book—and so he stopped just short of the degree.
Tommy began serving in music ministry in 1964 and was ordained as a minister on November 11, 1966. His calling to serve the Lord led him to pastor churches in several communities and states throughout his ministry.
Among the churches he faithfully served were:
• Lula Baptist Church in Clinton, Mississippi
• Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Bardstown, Kentucky
• Center Grove Baptist Church in Tullahoma, Tennessee
• First Baptist Church in Owenton, Kentucky
• Northside Baptist Church in Princeton, Kentucky
Through each congregation, Tommy gave himself wholeheartedly to preaching, teaching, counseling, encouragement, and the work of the Gospel. His ministry was not simply a profession; it was his calling and a central part of who he was.
Beyond the pulpit and classroom, Tommy had a personality and sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had favorite songs that held a special place in his heart, including Elvis Presley’s “Dixie Land” and music by Mario Lanza.
His faith was beautifully expressed in the Scriptures he loved.
A passage that reflected Tommy’s life and ministry was 2 Timothy 4:7–8:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness…” These words offer a fitting reflection on a man who devoted so many years to serving Christ and sharing his faith with others.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents Lee Roy & Pearl Marie Tackett, brother Lee Roy Jr (Bobbie) Tackett, sisters Joanne (A.D.) Meadows, Dot (Harold) Crawford, his 1st wife Sue Ann Tackett, son Jimmy Tackett & granddaughter Karrie Ann Arthur.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Tackett, daughter SuEllen (Troy) Davis, sons Terry (Karen) Tackett, Jerry (Cheyenne) Tackett & sister Sherry (Richard) Collum. He leaves a legacy of love for his grandchildren: Samantha Childers, Allie Mann, Abby Willis, Meg Tackett, Tricia Tackett, Kyle Tackett, & Erica Walk. He also leaves behind his 4 wonderful, great grandchildren: Jackson Arthur, Macie Arthur, Cireya Mann, & Anna Jeanne Childers.
A celebration of life is planned for August 22, 2026, at 2 pm. It will be held at Center Grove Baptist Church in Tullahoma TN with Bro. John Segree officiating. A graveside service will be held in Crystal Springs, MS on September 19 at 3 pm. All friends are invited to come & celebrate with the family.
