Douglas Ray Owens, age 72 of Decherd, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. A native of Franklin County, he was born in Winchester on August 13, 1953, to the late James H. and Margaret (Chasteen) Owens. Before his retirement, Douglas had been a lifelong truck driver fulfilling government contracts through the United States Postal Service and Aerospace Association. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars, especially sports cars and savoring a sinistro cigar. He was a wonderful cook, famous for his coconut cake, and loved animals. On fall Saturdays, Douglas could most definitely be found cheering loud and proud for the University of Tennessee Volunteers. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Greene; brother, Howard (Ruth) Owens; daughters, Jackie Owens and Jennie Simmons (Chris Denney); grandchildren, Alexis Simmons and Malaki Terry; son, Jerry (Katie) Walter; grandchildren, Keegan Walter, Isaac Walter, Kinsley Biggs, and Aubrey Walter; four-legged best friends, Daisy Mae and Zane; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Mark Smith and Jeff and Wendy Sons. Visitation will be from 1-3pm on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Animal Harbor, 56 Nor-Nan Road, Winchester, TN 37398.
