Franklin County Schools officially kicked off the 2026-2027 school year with a countywide professional development day, bringing educators together for a full day of learning, collaboration, and preparation ahead of students returning to the classroom.
The event was led by Director of Schools Dr. Roger Alsup, who welcomed teachers and staff as they prepared for the new academic year. Throughout the day, educators participated in a variety of breakout sessions designed to strengthen instructional practices and provide new strategies they can bring back to their classrooms.
District leaders said the professional development experience allowed teachers to customize their schedules by selecting sessions most relevant to their grade levels and subject areas. The event featured presentations from principals, instructional coaches, program representatives, and fellow teachers who volunteered to share their expertise with colleagues.
Several community organizations and vendors also participated, including Isaiah 117 House, ValuTeachers, Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG), the Franklin County Education Association, and the Franklin County Prevention Coalition, providing resources and connecting with educators throughout the day.
Franklin County Schools also recognized Gallagher, TRANE, and USAble Life for sponsoring breakfast and refreshments for attendees.
District officials credited the success of the event to the planning efforts of the Central Office staff, with Elementary Supervisor Amy Greer and Secondary Supervisor Rachel Shields leading the development of the countywide professional development program. School leaders say the day reflected the district’s ongoing commitment to supporting educators through professional growth while building momentum for another successful school year in Franklin County.
