School Board Approves Renaming of Huntland School Road to “Majors Way”

A road located on the Huntland School campus will soon carry a new name following approval by the Franklin County Board of Education during its June 8 meeting.

Board members approved a request to rename Jeff Street, which exits the rear of the Huntland Schools campus, to Majors Way.

The proposal originated in a May 18 letter from Huntland Schools Principal Lisa Crabtree, who asked the board to consider the change as a way to honor a family with deep ties to the school and community.

In her letter, Crabtree wrote that naming the roadway Majors Way would help identify the road as part of the school campus, enhance school pride, and recognize the lasting contributions of the Majors family.

“From playing days to coaching days to alumni events and scholarships every year, the Majors family has proven to be true blue and ‘Once a Hornet, Always a Hornet,’” Crabtree wrote.

According to the letter, Huntland City Hall confirmed that the roadway is owned by Franklin County Schools, allowing the Board of Education to consider the renaming request.

While the change may seem simple on the surface, supporters say it serves as a lasting tribute to a family that has invested countless hours and resources into the success of Huntland Schools and its students over multiple generations.

The approval came as part of the board’s June meeting agenda, which also included the adoption of the district’s new cell phone policy.

Once implemented, the new road name will provide a visible reminder of the tradition, community support, and school pride that have long been associated with the Huntland Hornets.
