Six Applicants to Interview for Circuit Judge Vacancy Wednesday in Winchester

Six applicants for a circuit court judgeship in the 12th Judicial District are scheduled for public interviews Wednesday, Oct. 21, in Winchester.

The Trial Court Vacancy Commission’s hearing begins at 9 a.m. Central at the Franklin County Judicial Center, 440 George Fraley Parkway, according to the Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts.

Residents checking older announcements should note the Wednesday date. The original notice scheduled the hearing for Oct. 19. On Oct. 2, the commission withdrew its previous notice and reopened applications through Oct. 7. The current six-person list and Oct. 21 hearing date were announced Oct. 8.

The applicants are:

  • Claudia Coco Angel, an assistant district attorney in the 11th Judicial District.
  • M. Keith Davis, a partner with Austin, Davis & Mitchell.
  • Thomas Richard Edward McEntyre, an assistant district attorney general in the 12th Judicial District.

  • Marshall A. “Mark” Raines Jr., Marion County General Sessions judge, who also serves as attorney for the county school board and the city of Jasper.
  • Jared Smith, an assistant district attorney general in the 12th Judicial District.

The commission expects to vote after the interviews and send nominees to Gov. Bill Lee for consideration.

Members of the public may attend and offer support or objections to applicants, either orally or in writing. The 11-member commission recommends candidates to the Governor’s Office for state trial-court vacancies.
