Bobby Joe Elliott, age 87 of Decherd, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2026, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro. He was born on October 3, 1939, in Jackson County, Alabama to the late Oakley and Evelyn (Stewart) Elliott. For many years, Bobby Joe worked as a heavy equipment operator. He then worked with his family at R and B Grocery until the time of his retirement. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and searching for arrowheads. A sports enthusiast, he cheered for the Alabama Crimson Tide, as well as NASCAR drivers Bill Elliott and Chase Elliott. Bobby Joe also enjoyed watching old western movies. He loved life and was considered the “life of the party. A devoted Christian, he attended Greenhaw Baptist Church. His generous and giving nature will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Richard Elliott and Daniel Elliott; and siblings, Maxine Elliott, Christine Moore, Donald Elliott, and Patsy Yamishro. Bobby Joe is survived by his sons, Tommy (Melanie) Elliott, Robert Elliott, and Terry Elliott; siblings, James (Barbara) Elliott, and Larry (Teresa) Elliott; grandchildren, Richard “Fester” Elliott, Terry (Felecia) Kelse, and Amy Wiggs; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral with Bro.
