Curtis Loyd Barnes

February 17, 1932  –  August 10, 2026

Curtis Loyd Barnes, 94, passed away on August 10, 2026, in Madison, Alabama.

Born on February 17, 1932, in Alto Tennessee to the late Robert Allen and Bertha Edna (Baker) Barnes, Loyd lived a full life that spanned 94 years spending majority of his life in Decherd TN. He was married to Hilda Mae and together they raised daughters, Donna and Denise.

To his two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, he was simply “Papa” — always asking how they were doing and excited to see them every chance he had available.

Loyd grew up in Decherd, TN with his brother William, and sisters Bunny and Edna. Loyd served in the US Army during the Korean War and later started his own business that supported the local area for 38 years, known by many as Barnes Exxon. Loyd was a private pilot and enjoyed taking his family on vacations in his plane. Some of his favorite memories were of his grandchildren spending time with him at his business. Loyd honorably served our nation, lived the American Dream, and created a family legacy that will live on forever. Follower of Christ, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and soldier.

He is survived by his grandsons, Harrison Loyd Jeremy Little and Justin Richard Scharber (Melissa); great grandchildren, Harper Kay Little, Adeline Scharber, Emily Scharber, and Hannah Scharber; along with his son in law, Charlie Hunter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Mae Barnes; and daughters, Donna Kay Hunter and Sharon Denise Devine.

Visitation will be from 10 am-12pm on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 12:30pm at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
