A homeowner was carried to safety from a Water Cure Road house fire Wednesday, Oct. 21, while a deputy responding to the emergency was involved in a two-vehicle crash that injured the deputy and another driver.
The people involved in the fire and crash are expected to make full recoveries, Sam Davidson of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office said during an in-person appearance on The Starting Lineup on Thursday morning, Oct. 22.
Davidson said the fire occurred shortly after first responders wrapped up a tabletop discussion with the school district. The home was near one of the district's schools. The sheriff's office identified the fire's location as Water Cure Road in its public statement.
Two deputies arrived to find a homeowner unable to evacuate, the office said. They carried the homeowner from the residence to safety. In its statement, the department praised their actions and said it was grateful they had been able to help so quickly.
During the response, one of the department's patrol vehicles was involved in the two-vehicle collision. Both the deputy and the other driver sustained injuries, the sheriff's office said. Its statement did not describe how the crash happened or assign fault to either driver.
The sheriff's office said both scenes required coordination with local fire departments. It credited the working relationships among the agencies and thanked the first responders who helped.
“Incidents like these remind us how important teamwork is in serving our community,” the office said in its statement.
The department also asked residents to keep those injured in their thoughts and prayers as they recover.
