Franklin County Schools Earn Majority of TVA STEM Grants in Service Area

Franklin County Schools are celebrating a major academic win after securing four of the six TVA STEM Grants awarded within the Duck River Electric service area.

The grants, which total $17,500 across local schools, will support hands-on learning opportunities designed to enhance student engagement in science, technology, engineering and math.

Educators recognized for securing the funding include April Green at Cowan Elementary, Sue Heaton at Decherd Elementary, Leslie Jones at Huntland School, and Jessica Guess at South Middle School. Their efforts helped bring valuable resources into classrooms across the county.

The Tennessee Valley Authority STEM Grant program is aimed at strengthening STEM education by providing teachers with funding for innovative, project-based learning experiences. These grants often support classroom technology, lab equipment, and interactive learning tools that help prepare students for future careers.

School leaders and local officials say bringing in four of the six available grants highlights the dedication of Franklin County educators and their commitment to student success.

The funding represents not only a financial boost for the schools involved, but also an investment in the future workforce of the community. By expanding access to STEM-based learning, students are gaining skills that are increasingly important in today’s job market.

Franklin County Schools also extended appreciation to Duck River Electric and TVA for their continued support of education in the region, noting that partnerships like these play a key role in advancing opportunities for students.

With strong teacher leadership and community support, Franklin County continues to position itself as a leader in educational innovation within the region.
