Lonnie Cecil Stevens

Lonnie Cecil Stevens, age 79 of Winchester, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, May 15, 2026. He was born on August 31, 1946, in the Anderson Community of Franklin County, to the late Tommie Stevens and Annie Pearl (Wells) Stevens Caldwell. Lonnie retired after thirty-six years with CSX railroad as a conductor. He enjoyed playing softball and was an avid sports fan; cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and Tennessee Vols, where neighbors could hear him, yelling give them six. Lonnie was a believer in Christ who found peace being outdoors. He was meticulous about his lawn and vegetable garden. Lonnie enjoyed being with his family and cooking wonderful meals for them to enjoy, especially chili, cornbread, and baked beans. He loved getting a good laugh or a smile when he would impersonate Donald Duck for his grandchildren. Lonnie will be remembered by his family and friends as “Thunder Lungs”; soft and gentle person, who could be very outspoken. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Oscar and Melinda Wells; siblings, Jackie Stevens and Leon Stevens. He is survived by his children, Dianna Cox, Sherry Stevens, LaBrone Stevens and Teresa Stevens; mother of children, Mary Lou Stevens; grandchildren, Joey Hood, Eldon (Alyssa) Posey, Alina (Justin) Randolph, Michael Posey, Randall (Stephanie) Laxson, Nathan (Keisha) Popplewell, Holly (Tony) Lane, Ashlyn Stevens, Macy (Logan) Solomon, and Morgan (Chase) Underwood; great-grandchildren, Seagan, Jace, Emerson, Harper, Layla, Karter, Mariah, Delilah, Kiara, Jayda, Conner, Kingston, Trayton, Addylin, and Hudson; siblings, Johnny (Sandy) Stevens, Jimmy Stevens, Susie (Billy Jack) Johnson, and Janice Lappin; sister-in-law, Carolyn Stevens; stepfather, Robert “Goob” Caldwell; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, caregiver, Rachel Archer; nurse and caregiver, Loma Daniel Oakley. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 12:00pm – 2:00pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with funeral service following at 2:00pm from the chapel.
