WINCHESTER, TN – Travelers and pilots using Winchester Municipal Airport will notice some temporary changes over the next several weeks as a major terminal restoration project officially gets underway at Winchester Municipal Airport (BGF).
Airport officials announced that the main terminal will be closed for approximately the next two months while restoration work is completed. During construction, airport operations will temporarily move to a trailer located on the south ramp near the terminal building.
Officials say normal business hours will continue during the project, but visitors should be aware of several temporary adjustments.
The trailer being used during construction does not have running water or restroom facilities. Portable restrooms have been placed in front of the trailer and are clearly marked for men and women.
Airport staff also emphasized that the main terminal building—including the after-hours pilot lounge—will not be accessible at any point during the construction process.
Visitors needing access to the temporary office trailer are instructed to enter through the ramp gate and drive parallel to the terminal building.
Airport officials also addressed questions regarding the current runway closure notice. According to the airport, Runway 18/36 remains open during daylight hours. However, an active NOTAM currently closes the runway from sunset to sunrise due to temporary issues involving runway lighting.
Officials say the nighttime closure is strictly a safety measure while the airport works alongside a lighting specialist to restore the system. Although the NOTAM is currently expected to remain active for several months, airport leadership says they hope to resolve the issue sooner.

Despite the temporary inconveniences, airport officials say they look forward to continuing service “from sunrise to sunset” throughout the project.
