Free Sewanee Discussion Will Honor Poet and SAS Graduate Caki Wilkinson Today

Writers Alice Bolin and Daniel Hornsby will discuss Caki Wilkinson’s poetry at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, in the McGriff Alumni House at the University of the South. The event is free and open to the public.

Wilkinson, a 1999 graduate of St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School, is the recipient of the 2026 Aiken Taylor Award for Modern American Poetry. The Sewanee Review announced her selection in August.

Wednesday’s discussion is part of the university’s October 20–21 program recognizing Wilkinson. The university’s schedule also listed an award presentation and reading for Tuesday in Convocation Hall; Wednesday’s discussion is the remaining public event.

The Sewanee bookstore will sell selected books by Wilkinson and the participating writers at the discussion.

Wilkinson’s books include Circles Where the Head Should Be, The Wynona Stone Poems and The Survival Expo. She lives in Memphis and is a Rhodes College graduate who went on to earn graduate degrees at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Cincinnati.

Bolin and Hornsby also teach in Sewanee’s School of Letters. Bolin writes essays, while Hornsby’s novels include Sucker and Via Negativa.

The university’s online event listing provides details for the poetry program.
