Duck River Electric Announces New Text Number; Sewanee Office To Close Thursday Morning

Duck River Electric members in Franklin County may begin receiving utility messages from a new number, the cooperative announced Tuesday, October 13.

The new sender is 844-778-1492. DREMC said the number will be used for account, service, outage and other cooperative updates. The messages members receive will depend on their account preferences.

The change matters for customers who use text notifications to keep up with their electric service. A message arriving from an unfamiliar number may now be part of DREMC’s regular communications.

The cooperative also outlined what members should not expect in those messages: requests for passwords or banking information, or demands for immediate payment through a link.

Anyone uncertain about a text can contact DREMC directly at 931-684-4621 to verify it. Members should use that published contact number rather than treating the displayed sender alone as proof that a request is safe.

In a separate notice, DREMC announced that its Sewanee office will be closed Thursday, October 15, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Central because of a planned outage affecting the office location.

Customers needing assistance during that closure can call 931-684-4621 or email corpinfo@dremc.com. The notice describes an office closure; it does not identify the wider area or number of customers affected by the planned outage.

DREMC lists local offices in Decherd and Sewanee and provides emergency assistance outside regular office hours through its System Operations Center.
