October 26, 1948 – July 13, 2026
On July 13, 2026, our beloved Margaret Buckner was called home. She was born on October 26, 1948, and was a lifelong resident of Winchester, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Joe Amos and Odell (Taylor) Vanzant. She was baptized at Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church earlier in life. Later, she became a member of Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church. She served as an usher at both churches.
Margaret was well known for her strong work ethic, generous heart, and kind spirit. More importantly, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt.
From an early age, she learned the value of hard work. She worked in the cotton fields and babysat as a young girl. As an adult, she worked at several factories, including Genesco, SAS, and CKR/Tepro. Finally, she worked at Franklin Manor for 16 years until her retirement on June 30, 2026.
Margaret was well known for her cooking, especially her chess pie and Thanksgiving dressing. She loved fried potatoes, biscuits, and her baby sister’s meatloaf. She enjoyed watching westerns, Walker, Texas Ranger, and Good Morning America with Michael Strahan. Her nephew, Joey, always called her “Red Fox.”
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her three daughters, Monica (Troy) Horton, Kimberly Taylor, and Melissa Buckner; five devoted sisters and three devoted brothers, Dimple Blackmon, Joanne (Thomas) Winton, Anna (Bill) Brown, Debra Vanzant, Tonya Vanzant, Robert (Trendy) Vanzant, Tyrone (Stephanie) Vanzant, and Jerome (Bridget) Vanzant; one aunt, Jean Miller; grandchildren, Kiana Horton, Savannah Horton, and Trayvon Taylor; and great-grandchildren, Zakaree Moore, Honesty Moore, Legend Brooks, and Legacy Brooks.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Roy Jr. Vanzant.
Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Watson Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 P.M. in the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Farris Chapel Cemetery.
