Joyce Lee Bennett, age 91, of Winchester, Tennessee, formerly of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
Born on September 6, 1934, in Cookeville, Tennessee, Joyce was the daughter of the late Aubrey and Beulah (Pharris) McCawley. She was a faithful member of Owens Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Winchester, Tennessee.
Joyce was a gifted artist who especially loved watercolor painting. One of her greatest joys was handcrafting her own Christmas cards each year, creating well over 100 beautiful cards to share with family and friends. As the wife of a minister, she faithfully assisted her husband in his ministry for more than 50 years. Afterward, she pursued a career in nursing, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse and serving with compassion at Winchester Hospital in the Skilled Care Center. Joyce also enjoyed singing and was a devoted member of her church choir. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose kindness and faith touched the lives of many.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles “Glenn” Bennett; her beloved son-in-law, John E. Hall; niece, Tammy DeRossett; and brother, Billy Arkley McCawley.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Glenda Hall and Glendora (Don) Stringfield; her grandchildren, Johnathan Hall, Angela Downey, and Marcia Brigham; her great-grandchildren, Nicole Brigham, Mandy Steelman, and Ashley (Angela) Walker; four great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Judy (Bill) Pauley; her nephew, Tim (Sheila) Carlisle; her great-nephews, Jack Carlisle, Broc DeRossett, and Logan Duks; and her great-niece, Kennedy Carlisle; cousins, Catherine Green, and Onda V. Gibbons; and several friends who will cherish her memory.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Phillips Cemetery in Cookeville, Tennessee, with Bro. Jon Hollifield officiating.
