Laura Katherine Scott Jackson, age 82, of Decherd, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on January 21, 1944, in Pelham to the late Jim Scott and Elizabeth (Barnes) Scott. She was a devoted homemaker, a faithful Christian woman, and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

Affectionately known as “Granny,” Katherine truly found joy in the simple things in life. She loved spending time outdoors tending to her plants and garden, fishing, and watching dirt track races. She especially enjoyed planning cookouts and family gatherings, where she could spend precious time with the people she loved most.

More than anything, Katherine cherished her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent making memories with them. She had a kind heart, a gentle spirit, and a way of making everyone feel welcome and loved. Her smile could light up a room, and she never missed an opportunity to remind her family how deeply she loved them.

Katherine was known for being feisty at times, caring, fun-loving, nurturing, and full of love. She never met a stranger and treated everyone with kindness and compassion. A devoted member of Roark’s Cove Baptist Church, she proudly served the Lord and lived her life with unwavering faith, grace, and devotion. Her Christian faith guided her throughout her life, and she found comfort and strength in her love of Christ, always sharing that love with those around her through kindness, compassion, and a servant’s heart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Freddie Carl Gilliam; and her siblings, Cotton Gilliam and Janice Gilliam.

Katherine is survived by her loving daughters, Becky Ayers, Kathy Gilliam, Khristina Howard, and Tina Howard; siblings, Coonie (Gail) Gilliam of Winchester, Cecil Gilliam of Pensacola, Florida, and Debbie Mooningham of Monteagle.

She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Carl Myers, Amy Norris, Sandy Blount, Ruthie Arnold Rogers, and Lee McClure; and her beloved great-grandchildren: Amelia Myers, Kerry Lee Norris, Kyson Norris, Christian Eubanks, Kaydence Blount, Jayda Blount, Maleah McClure, Summer McClure, Levi Mullinax Jr., Noah Mullinax, Maliki McClure, Blake Arnold, and Aaliyah Woodard.
