Winchester played host to a unique and refreshing competition on April 23, 2026, as water utilities from across the region gathered at the Winchester City Park Red Roof Pavilion for the annual TAUD Regional Water Taste Test.
Each year, the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts (TAUD) conducts regional contests across the state to determine which utility provides the best-tasting water. These events serve as qualifying rounds, with winners advancing to the statewide competition held during the TAUD Annual Conference.

Region 6, which includes utilities serving Maury, Giles, Rutherford, Marshall, Bedford, Moore, Lincoln, Cannon, Coffee, and Franklin counties, was well represented at this year’s event in Winchester.
After judging and evaluation, Belvidere Rural Utility District was selected as the winner of the Region 6 contest. With the victory, Belvidere now advances to the statewide competition, where it will compete against winners from other regions across Tennessee for the title of Best Tasting Water in the state.

If successful at the state level, the winning utility will go on to represent Tennessee in the Great American Water Taste Test in Washington, D.C., held as part of the National Rural Water Association’s Rural Water Rally.
TAUD officials will cover travel expenses, including airfare, hotel, and meals, for a representative of the winning utility to attend the national competition.

The annual contest highlights the quality and dedication of local water systems, offering a lighthearted but meaningful way to recognize the work being done to provide clean, reliable drinking water across communities.
