James Raymond Bowers, age 71 of Winchester, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Highpoint Health Medical Center. He was born in Copperhill, Tennessee on January 5, 1955, to the late Raymond and Dorothy (Curtis) Bowers. A proud veteran, James served his country in the United States Navy. Before his retirement, he was employed by Goodrich Corporation. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, along with watching the Georgia Bulldogs play football in his spare time. A member of the Church of God, James was a Godly man with a servant’s heart. His missionary work included traveling to China to deliver Bibles, as well as helping to build a church in Venezuela. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cindy Headrick; aunt/second mother, Bonnell Christensen; and father and mother-in-law, Ardie and Dorothy Champion. James is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Champion Bowers; son, Raymond Bowers; and grandson, Gabriel Bowers. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 27, 2026, in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Don Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Debbie Bowers.
