Franklin County School Board to Hold Workshop March 2 Focused on Budget and Discipline

WINCHESTER, Tenn. — The Franklin County School Board will hold a workshop on Monday, March 2 at 6:00 p.m., according to an announcement released by the district.

The workshop will take place at the Board of Education office located at 215 South College Street in Winchester.

According to Secondary Supervisor Rachel Shields, the agenda will include discussions regarding the Fiscal Year 2027 budget and student discipline.

Budget workshops typically provide board members and district leadership an opportunity to review early financial projections, evaluate funding priorities, and discuss anticipated expenditures ahead of the formal budgeting process. Planning for FY27 will likely involve conversations about staffing, operational costs, instructional needs, and long-term financial strategy across Franklin County Schools.

Student discipline will also be a key topic of discussion. Issues surrounding school culture, accountability, and consistent enforcement of policies have been part of broader education conversations both locally and statewide. The workshop format allows board members and administrators to review current practices and consider potential adjustments before formal action is taken at a future meeting.

The timing of the workshop comes as the district prepares for a leadership transition. Dr. Roger Alsup is set to assume the role of Director of Schools later this year, replacing Dr. Cary Holman. While Dr. Holman remains in the position during the current school year, discussions related to long-range budgeting and student discipline could help shape priorities moving into the next phase of district leadership.

Workshops are generally structured for discussion and planning rather than formal votes, but the conversations often influence policy decisions and action items brought before the board in subsequent meetings.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on March 2 at the Franklin County Board of Education office.
