Winchester, TN – If the Franklin County Prevention Coalition was once considered the county’s “best kept secret,” those days are quickly fading.
The coalition is rolling out an expanded lineup of education and recovery-focused programs aimed at reaching more individuals and families than ever before — all based at its Shepherd Street location in Winchester.
Among the offerings is “Clearing the Air: Nicotine Education Class,” held the last Wednesday of every month from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The class covers the dangers of nicotine, the differences between smoking and vaping, prevention strategies and resources for those looking to quit.
Recovery support is also growing. “Midweek Miracles,” a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, meets every Wednesday at noon beginning March 4 at the Old Townsend Building. Also meeting Wednesdays at noon is “Midweek Serenity AFG,” an Al-Anon family group designed to help individuals cope with the challenges of a loved one’s drinking.
The coalition is also continuing its TN Save a Life initiative with a quarterly “Fentanyl Basics” training scheduled for March 26 at 6 p.m. The session will cover what fentanyl is, current data trends, risks and dangers, and how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose. The training will be led by Regional Overdose Prevention Specialist Dustin Ritchie.
Coalition leaders say the goal is simple: meet people where they are and provide education, hope and practical tools for prevention and recovery.
With classes, support groups and community trainings happening consistently, the Franklin County Prevention Coalition is making it clear that help, education and support are available — and no longer a hidden resource in the community.
