Authorities have identified a suspect in connection with a Sunday night homicide investigation in Giles County.
According to the Giles County Sheriff’s Department, 31-year-old Aaron Wayne Purvis of Atmore, Alabama, was taken into custody Monday, February 16, 2026, in Franklin County, Tennessee, on charges unrelated to the homicide case. During that arrest, law enforcement recovered multiple firearms and additional evidence. Investigators believe one of the firearms in Purvis’ possession was used in Sunday night’s shooting.
Warrants have now been filed charging Purvis with First Degree Homicide and Attempted First Degree Homicide.
The Giles County Sheriff’s Department expressed appreciation to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office for what officials described as swift action, collaboration and professionalism that were instrumental in identifying Purvis as the suspect.
Sheriff Purvis praised his deputies and investigators for their work in bringing the case to this stage.
“I am very proud of the hard work our deputies and investigators put in to bring this case to this point,” he said. “Their professionalism and tireless dedication, along with partnerships across the state, led to the collection of evidence which established probable cause to file charges.”

He also thanked Franklin County Sheriff Tim Fuller and his staff for their attentiveness and partnership, noting their efforts prevented the suspect from potentially remaining at large and posing a risk to public safety. District Attorney Brent Cooper and his office were also recognized for their assistance throughout the investigation.
Officials say the case remains active and ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed anything related to this investigation, no matter how minor it may seem, is encouraged to contact the Giles County Sheriff’s Department at 931-363-3505.
Purvis will be transported to the Giles County Jail following his release from the Franklin County Jail. As in all cases, all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
