Clay DeWayne Barstad Sr, age 86 of Winchester, passed away on his birthday, January 31, 2026, at home with his family. He was born in Fargo, North Dakota, on January 31, 1940, to the late Lawrence A. Barstad Sr. and Minnie Margaret Hogan and raised in Franklin County in the Capitol Hill Community. Clay enjoyed fishing, hunting, and raising hunting dogs. He worked as a farmer, construction worker, and crane operator in his many years with the union of operating engineers local 917. In addition to his parents, Clay is preceded in death by his son, James Brooke Barstad; brother, Lawrence A. Barstad Jr.; sister, Barbara Ann Verrist; daughter-in-law, Linda K. Barstad. Clay is survived by his loving wife since April 6, 1991, Dorothy Carol Barstad; sons, Dane Bradley Barstad of Estill Springs, Russell David Barstad (Kathy) of Coolidge, Georgia, Clay DeWayne Barstad Jr. (Melonie) of Cookeville, Joseph Albert Barstad (Sherry) of Tullahoma; Christopher Lawrence Barstad (Claire) of Capitol Hill; sister, Brenda Hope Barstad Brown (Bob) of Olathe, Kansas, brother, John Aruthur Barstad (Debbie) of Allen Park, Michigan; fortunate to have an abundance of grandchildren, Caitlyn Barstad, Augustus Barstad, Dawn Spikes, Jennifer Webb, Hannah Barstad, Dylan Barstad, Peyton Barstad, Victoria Barstad, Austin Creasman, Nic Barstad; several great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bob Verrist; sister-in-law, Shelia Barstad; and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 11am-2pm at Watson Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2pm on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 2pm at Watson Funeral Home.
