South Middle School has announced the hiring of Cale Thompson as the school’s new head football coach.
The announcement was shared by the school along with a message from Thompson, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Trojans program. In his statement, Thompson thanked school leadership for the opportunity and said he is looking forward to working with the South Middle community.
“I want to thank Dr. Brewer, Mr. Dawson and the other administrators that have allowed me this opportunity,” Thompson said. “I am extremely grateful and excited for this next chapter in mine and my family’s life.”
Thompson also noted that he is eager to begin working alongside the staff already in place at South Middle and emphasized the importance of developing student-athletes both on and off the field.
“This program is about the kids, because our student athletes are so important to the future of our community,” Thompson said. “We will be disciplined both in the classroom and on the field. We will be blue-collar workers, we will be well prepared, we will be confident in ourselves and our teammates, and we will be fun to watch.”

In his message to the school community, Thompson said he is looking forward to getting to know the South Middle students, staff and families while continuing the program’s tradition of excellence.
School officials say the hiring reflects their commitment to maintaining a strong football program while emphasizing academic success and character development for student-athletes.
