Rebels Compete with No. 2 Tullahoma, Fall 61–47 on the Road

A few weeks ago, the Franklin County Rebels walked out of Tullahoma on the wrong end of a lopsided loss.

Tuesday night looked very different.

Facing a Tullahoma squad ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, the Rebels played at their own pace, defended with purpose, and competed for four quarters before ultimately falling 61–47. While the result goes down as a loss, the performance showed measurable growth against one of the state’s deepest and most talented teams.

Franklin County kept things tight early, trailing just 20–17 at the end of the first quarter. Austin Heath set the tone offensively, scoring eight early points to lead the Rebels in the opening period. However, early foul trouble forced Heath to the bench, disrupting his rhythm and limiting his impact the rest of the night.

The Rebels continued to battle in the second quarter, hanging within striking distance and trailing just 35–27 at halftime. Both teams matched each other in the third quarter with 12 points apiece, and at one point in the second half Franklin County trimmed the deficit to just two points — a far cry from the margin in the first meeting between the teams.

But depth began to show as the game wore late.

Tullahoma had 12 different players score and 11 Wildcats were whistled for fouls. Despite committing more than 20 team fouls, the Wildcats were never truly in foul trouble thanks to a deep bench that allowed them to rotate fresh bodies throughout the night.

Franklin County, meanwhile, is currently leaning on a tighter rotation of seven to eight players, and the minutes began to add up late. Tullahoma opened the fourth quarter on a 7–0 run and ultimately outscored the Rebels 13–8 in the final period to create separation.

Brandon Walker finished with 12 points, while Brody Goff provided a strong second-half spark with nine of his 11 points coming after halftime. Monte Johnson added nine points, Jayden Cisco contributed five, and Heath’s eight first-quarter points rounded out the scoring.

The Rebels also left some opportunities at the free-throw line down the stretch that could have tightened the margin even further.

Alex and Sam Bobo played key roles for Tullahoma, along with Lukas Price, but it was the Wildcats’ depth that ultimately made the difference in the closing minutes.

Franklin County falls to 9–18 overall and continues district play knowing the gap between themselves and the top of the league isn’t about effort — it’s about margin for error. Against one of the state’s best teams, the Rebels proved they can compete when they play disciplined, physical basketball.
