August 9, 1944 – March 19, 2026
Margaret Ann Rutledge Hall, age 81 of Winchester, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026. She was born in Dunlap, Tennessee, on August 9, 1944, to the late Earl Howard Rutledge and Villa Hughes Rutledge. She was raised on a farm in the beautiful Sequatchie Valley. Margaret graduated with honors from Sequatchie County High School in 1962 where she was an All-Region Basketball Player. She received an Associate Business Degree from Draughan’s Business College in Nashville. It was during that time that she met the love of her life, her husband Howard. Margaret worked at an insurance agency in Knoxville to help put her new husband through Engineering School at the University of Tennessee. That turned her blood “orange.” After graduation, she worked as a secretary at AEDC prior to having daughters. She later worked in law offices of Swafford, Davis, and Peters, then for Sheriff Bill Harris as well as County Judge Roy Tipps, and later for dermatologist, Dr. Jim Holiman. A member of Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church for over fifty years, she served as Office Manager and Church Treasurer for twenty-nine years, retiring at the age of 77. She also taught children in Sunday School and played on church softball and volleyball teams. Margaret loved sports, especially all University of Tennessee sports. She and Howard followed the Vols and Lady Vols across the USA to many football and basketball games. They loved to travel and were fortunate to get to travel abroad. She enjoyed playing Bridge in the same Bridge Club for fifty plus years. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family, especially her daughters and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Earlene Rutledge Cyree; and brother, Carroll Gene Rutledge. Margaret is survived by her loving husband of over sixty years, Howard Claxton Hall Jr; daughters, Melissa Ann Fischer and Jennifer Leigh Hall; grandson, Ethan Hall Fischer; granddaughter, Anna Eden Fischer; brother, Luke Rutledge; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held from 1-3pm on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Michael Clark officiating.
